Get Tech-y at Flag Fen.

13th-17th February - 10am-4pm (last entry 3pm)

What’s really high technology? Forget your mobile phone or I-Pad and learn about technology and challenges, as faced by our ancient ancestors in a week of activities that will be fun for all the family.

Each day costumed re-enactors will be on site demonstrating how technology developed and dealt with life’s little problems – Bronze Age and Roman style! Why not try your hand at our technology trail around the site, or enter our competition to come up with the most ingenious ancient machine. There will also be family craft activities on site throughout each day, with bookable workshops each weekday morning (find out all the details below!).

Every day we’ll have a different bookable workshop to help you learn an ancient skill and maybe even take something home to show for your efforts! Lasting 2 hours from 10:30am – 12:30pm places are limited, so book in advance to avoid disappointment! There is a small additional charge of £2 per person for these workshops.

Something to do with the family, or by yourself, why not try your hand at ancient crafts?

Monday 13th – Dying to try dyeing?
Learn about which plants were used to make different dyes and create your own natural coloured rainbow using traditional dyeing techniques!

Wednesday 15th – Don’t tie yourself in knots
Learn basic ancient knotting techniques that were used up to 7,000 years ago to handcraft all sorts of clothing, decorative arts or jewellery. A truly ancient craft!

There’s more to Roman food than dormice! Come help prepare and share food to genuine Roman recipes and with your new knowledge you’ll be able to whip up Roman-style meals at home in no time.

Friday 17th – Flint knapping
