The first thing that you should know about the Museum of Human Evolution is that it is located on the south set of the Arianzon River. The museum is almost 16 kilometeres west from the Sierra de Atapuerca which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The museum opened its gates to the public on the 13th of July 2010. In such a short time the museum had received around 150,000 visitors by the end of December of 2010. This made the Museum of Human Evolution the most stayed museum in Castile as well as Leon.

The Museum of Human Evolution is known for its unique architecture style, it was crafted by the Spanish prize winning designer Juan Navarro Baldeweg. The whole of the compound was designed by the same architect. The land that they chose in order to build the Museum of Human Evolution was the same plot of land where the convent of San Pablo once stood. This convent was one of the oldest house of the Order of Preachers in Castile. When the convent was demolished in the mid-19th century military barracks were built in its place.
The barracks were then again demolished in the 20th century which left a void in the city and the plot of the land was utilized as a car park for many years. However, after many years it was decided that the Museum of Human Evolution would be built on the empty plot of land.

The structure of the Museum of Human Evolution is pretty detailed and each level offers something different. The interior if the Museum of Human Evolution attempts to recreate the backdrop of the Sierra de Atapuerca.
The first level or Level -1 of this particular museum is considered to be the core of the museum. It is a solitary exhibition space which comprises of paleontological and archaeological attractions. The second level or Level 0 of the museum is solely devoted to the philosophy of evolution by Charles Darwin. Level 1 and Level 2 are dedicated to the milestones of the cultural evolution and the ecosystems respectively.
